DESCRIPTION
Turmeric or Indian saffron originates in South Asia. It is known primarily as a yellow spice from dried ground rhizome. It is part of a popular curry mix. It contains about 5% of an essential oil with the main components sabinene, felendren and the yellow dye curcumin. Turmeric is also used to make flour, which appears on the market under the name Arrowrot or Koa.
Used in fish and turtle soups. Curcumin is known as a dye that is also used in food products. Golden-yellow spices obtained from this plant have been used for medicinal purposes in their countries of origin for 4,000 years. Turmeric played a prominent role in the beginnings of Ayurveda, the oldest holistic medicine in the world, whose origins date back to around 2000 BC.
